How’s today going for you?
Is it one of the good days, or shaping up to be a hard one?
If it’s a hard one, keep listening. I’ve got you covered.
(And if it’s a good one, high five to you. Store away these tips for your next difficult day.)
It’s one of those days….
You woke up grudgingly. The baby was up three times when she should have been up once. You got to bed too late the night before. Or maybe you just didn’t sleep well because that to-do list kept cycling through your brain.
Whatever the reason, you’re full-on tired and wishing you didn’t have to get going.
I hear you.
This is my favorite question to ask on those days.
“What can I cut today to make this day better?”
No really, cut it.
Everything’s on the table: exercise, planned meals, small tasks, big tasks.
- Do I really need to get in a full workout today, or would 5 minutes of gentle stretching be kind to my body and keep me in the exercise mindset?
- Does that deep cleaning need to happen today? Does it need to happen at all? Maybe I can bump it to next week (or just reschedule for next month!).
- What about the meal plan? Is it complicated tonight, or fast enough that I won’t have a problem, even while tired? Can I switch it with another night if I have all the ingredients?
- Today, where should I plan extra downtime? (Aka introvert self-care.) I’m going to need it. So where can I get that extra half hour or hour to fill my own cup, as I’m running on fumes today?
Make it even simpler.
If the list of questions seems overwhelming, simplify it even further.
What one thing could I remove from today, that would make it all better?
(You know, that one thing you’re dreading. Whether it’s your priority task for the day, deep cleaning you thought “should” happen, or a workout – you have permission to skip it.)
If taking out just one thing makes you feel cheerful about the day stretching in front of you, do it. No guilt.
You having a great mindset is worth a skipped workout. A dirty bathroom. A quick supper.
Scrap those frogs.
So find your “big ugly frog” today – and don’t eat it. Do the easy things.
Sometimes, we all need a light day.
And you can give it to yourself.
Just ask, “What one thing would make today better?”
- What can I defer to another week – month – season?
- What tasks can be slashed from my to-do list as not truly necessary?
- What does “gentle exercise” look like for me, today?
And give yourself some more self-care. Because you’re having a hard introvert day.
What this looks like for me: When I’m sick, or on my cycle, or just having a really bad headache for some reason – this is when I reduce my workouts to just stretching OR taking a walk. (Not both.)
And I make myself an extra cup of hot tea in the afternoon – maybe even a morning one.
You’ll also catch me chopping those “would be great to get around to” tasks like buying a present ahead for next season (because it really doesn’t have to get done today).
So. If you need help deleting tasks and commitments from your busy days, I absolutely want to support you in that.
Sometimes we just need permission to cut ourselves some slack and not keep up such a high standard.
Which is exactly what #Momlife Made Easy coaching is all about.
Your life, made easy.
That’s what I’m here for.
Because there are outings or activities that drain you, that you still have to show up for.
So you need to balance the energy budget – make a little more time than normal to relax and recharge.
What’s the one thing you can cut from your list today?
