So this comes from one of my clients recently, who had just gotten her schedule in order and was really feeling good about her work hours, kid bedtimes, how much time she had for housework, etc.
But there was one more problem…. After living this ideal schedule for a week, she realized she was always running late!
Not by a ton – just by 10 or 15 minutes each time. Again, this is not a lot – but it was enough to throw her off-kilter and make her feel like she wasn’t making progress. (When actually, she was!)
So here’s what I told her – and what you can do if you’re in this situation, too.
Here it is: Just add an extra 15 minutes to your time block for that activity – every activity – across the board. Whether it’s grocery shopping, or wrapping up work, or snuggle time, or food prepping.
Give yourself that 10 to 15 minutes more time. This will help you cut your guilt, realign with your schedule, and get realistic about your day.
Because look, here’s the thing: your ideal schedule is just that. Ideal.
Then you have to go out there and live it. And in living it, you will inevitably find little changes. Little time tweaks. Just like the extra 15 minutes my client needed.
It’s still the perfect schedule for you; all it needs is a little adjustment.
Don’t throw the productivity baby out with the calendar bathwater. You’re doing just fine.
Go create that new schedule for yourself, your family’s day, and go live it. *Expect* the changes. *Expect* the tweaks.
‘Cause they’re what’s going to turn that great new schedule into something *amazing*.
