Have you ever wondered what the point is of slow living? Thought, “But why would I want a slow-motion life?”
Then today’s post is for you.
I’m breaking down three reasons why a slow life is better for you – aka, exactly what this “slow living” thing is all about!
Here we go.
Stress reduction
First off, living slow reduces your stress level.
You move from frazzle zone to time-for-everything zone. Which is an awesome way to live life, right?
Who wouldn’t want to trade the “ten thousand things to do today” outlook for “I have enough time to get everything done – and sip coffee while I’m at it”?
You see, living slow really means removing all the excess. All the fluff. All the “good but not great” parts of your life.
And what do you get after this pruning process?
Your best life, that’s what.
Slow(er), meaningful, unstressed. That’s my kind of living!
Better parenting
Second, when you take up slow living, you’re going to notice something: your kids get a better mommy.
(Hey, you aren’t snapping at them for that one cheerio spill that’s your “straw that broke the camel’s back”!)
After practicing this pruning and de-frazzling for a while, you’ll naturally find that you have more patience to go around.
When you aren’t using up all your personal margin on running late, squeezing in one more to-do, or frantically checking the clock, guess what? You can spend all that extra energy on the kids!
Snapping won’t be your normal comeback anymore.
What a relief! (For you and them – we don’t want to be upset mommies, but sometimes our emotions get the better of us!)
That’s a pretty sneaky benefit to slowing your life down, if you ask me!
Time between
Finally, when you live slow, you gain time to think, reflect, and relax. To let the white space happen.
And this one’s big.
No more do you run through your day, wishing you could take a break and just process what’s going on with your kids. The emotions welling up inside you. The argument with your spouse.
With this new, slower way of living, you already have that time.
You’re not racing here and there, no time between activities, 10 to-dos crammed into 10 minutes.
No, you’ve got the sheer time – every day – to go for a walk. Take down that journal. Process with a friend. Or maybe, just sip that cup of coffee and let yourself be for 10 minutes!
You have time.
And that, my friend, is the most priceless gift of all.
‘Cause when we have time, our best ideas come.
When we have time, we realize the changes we need to make.
When we have time, everything shifts.
Now it’s your turn.
What do you need to do today – drop today – to make everything shift?
What dominos would instantly produce a slower pace of life for you, if removed?
(Meal planning, kid wakeups, cleaning routine….)
I challenge you to find three things that you can cut – right now – to make a difference.
Start living your slow life today.
You won’t want to go back.
