You’re loving your hours (both daily and weekly view), and you’re really leaning into your WFH-with-kids life and soaking it all up.
(Half days with your kids! No stress when they come home sick! Slow mornings sipping coffee and snuggling them around the house!)
FINALLY you have the calendar you dreamed of.
And then along comes a financial problem in your personal life. All of a sudden, you need a ton more money than you’re getting.
Your husband’s car is totaled – or you need cash to get one of your kids in to see a specialist (‘cause insurance won’t approve it) – or you’ve got college tuition to pay for (plus a deadline!).
And you’re wondering how you’re going to stretch to fit this financially, plus what monetary sacrifices you’ll need to make (if you can’t find a way to increase your income), as well as feeling kind of resentful that now you don’t get to enjoy that nice, new WFH schedule.
Because earning money takes precedence, and the budget stress potential is eating you up.
(Do I have to take a bunch of clients and cram my day full with no breaks? Can I even get that many clients? Do we need to cut back our grocery spending and live on Dave Ramsey’s beans and rice till the medical bill is paid off? What are my kids going to say when I tell them we can’t afford karate lessons anymore?)
Guess what – one of my clients was in this exact same situation, and here’s the sneaky solution I found her.
You know what she had? A successful business.
Do you know what that means? What that REALLY means? That she could print money again and again. Whenever she chose to.
In her case, that meant opening up a few more client spots. Monthly income goal, done. Boom. Just like that.
All we had to do was discuss what was the easiest time to open up in her weekly calendar – the least busy time of day – for these new clients.
She was so in demand that we knew they’d be snapped up.
Do you know what a blessing that is?
When you can just take that all-consuming worry about finances, and turn it completely around into a song of thankfulness that your work is so admired that all you have to do is just mention your new openings, and people are falling all over themselves to get one of your coveted spots?
That’s amazing. That’s business success. That’s when you know you’ve made it.
So here’s the lesson for you.
- Which is easier?
- Which is less stressful?
- Would you rather keep to your perfect schedule with the maximum amount of breathing space, or would you rather work a little harder (notice I said a little!) and banish your daily money worries for good?
It’s your choice. The money deficit, or being a little busier.
You get to do more of what works (in this client’s case, offering more spots for her services) in a very practical sense, in order to fix your very practical problem in your personal life (in this case, more money).
So if you’ve got a money shortfall or a schedule crunch or something going on that needs tweaking, and you’re mourning the loss of your “dream work-from-home life” progress to date, don’t.
You have a choice here.
- Where can you do more of what works in your business?
- Where can you get super efficient with your time? (But still allow yourself that breathing space each day?)
- Where can you attract a bunch more clients? Write a new email sequence? Sell into a new program?
There’s always a “lean into your business gifting” answer to your personal monetary worries.
And often, it’s the easiest route for you personally to take.
Journal on that a little and see if that’s true for you, too, today.
Because the answer to “more money” is so often a scheduling detail to work out – which is why I focus so much on scheduling in my work/life balance program for moms. So that you get to enjoy the kind of work-from-home life you wanted – one that’s not crammed with cleaning, chores, and room pickup just because you’re the at-home parent.
And I’m not talking about just redoing the cleaning routines you’re using, either. We’re talking the serious, grown-up, $10k-months-and-up “how do I get this done and still have energy for my kids” sort of scheduling.
Because that’s what you want, so that’s what I’m going to help you get. Are you ready?
