You had a difficult birth, or started your business pre-kids, and now post-maternity leave, you’re getting that “time to get things rolling again” feeling for your business.
One of my clients was in this exact situation, and to make matters even more dicey, she was looking at a complete business pivot and reboot on top.
She said, “I’m feeling a lot of anxiety over getting things up and running, pivoting my product suite, *and* re-setting up all my old work times and routines post baby. How do I choose the exact right thing to do next? I’ve got so much already invested in terms of business foundations, and I don’t want to waste that.”
So. Here’s what we did.
Contrary to popular advice, I did NOT tell my client to just hustle herself through the mama-business-adjustment stage and start “living her calling” and “push through the re-launch” or any of that.
No, I understand how completely different your life is post baby. It’s now driven by naptimes, nursing times, snack-and-story times, early bedtimes – and your during-the-day energy (and focus!) is completely different.
Those are just facts.
So what *you* need to do, now in this moment, is accept that this is indeed a relaunch of your particular business – with all the attendant license to rethink and rejigger and redo that goes along with that – and then start this “launch period” from a “ground up, I already know how to do this, I don’t have to do it the same way” kind of mindset.
Okay?
And skip the mom guilt – no, not just by talking about it, by actual *laying out* the baby plus non-baby time in your workday, and acting accordingly. (Which I will *absolutely* help you do as part of my work/life balance-in-business program – ‘cause I’ve been through 5 baby stages with infants, and trust me, I know how this works!)
You’re *going* to have enough time to spend with them – on *both* their care *and* the fun snuggles part – *and* get yourself the “new mommy recharge time” you need to make it through this adjustment to “post mat leave back to work” season.
And you’re going to *know* that you moved the needle on *everything* your business reboot needed from you today.
‘Cause listen. Every time you take another action, you ARE successfully rethinking your business model.
- So go ahead and outline what a mom-energy-centric product suite would look like.
- Brainstorm a new content schedule that lets you record when the babies nap.
- Look at your client pathway from the lens of “this is already working, and I’m just tweaking things to fit motherhood.”
You’re going to make it. You’re going to LOVE this new iteration of your work-at-home business.
‘Cause business version 2.0 is right on the way, sister.
