There’s only ONE thing I’m trying to do this year in my business – and it’s not a strategy.
No, it’s called “follow your gut” for every decision, no matter how small.
(Think, which client project should I work on today? Whose podcast pitch should I take? Which program or mentor should I invest in next? Does this content task REALLY belong on this week’s to-do list, or would it better match the energy of another week?)
And you know why I shifted from a super masculine, planning-heavy strategy to this softer, more feminine business approach?
It’s because I saw I was having ZERO problems meeting my deadlines. Turning in work way ahead of them, in fact.
But I wasn’t enjoying the process.
It still felt artificial.
But THIS way, the new way, felt like that long exhale when you’re doing breathwork. Carrying the resistance and daily stress build-up right out of you.
And I thought, why not get that de-stress feeling every day of the work week, not just once a quarter or once a semester on a CEO retreat??
So here’s what’s happened since I’ve started following this process. (Yes, I tried it out BEFORE January started – part of how I make sure I’ve picked the right New Year’s resolutions!)
Every time I felt contracted about the next project on my to-do list, I quickly reframed that feeling to “I don’t have to do this today; what’s something ELSE off my list that still needs to get done, that I could swap in instead?” And let myself switch.
(Even though it felt like cheating to change my prearranged plan!)
And then the next day, if I STILL didn’t want to tackle that bumped project (maybe it was LinkedIn content for the next quarter, or batching email headlines for Kit or something), I’d question whether that particular bit of batching REALLY had to get done this week (or next week), or not.
- Maybe its actual hard deadline was next month – or 2 months from now?
- Maybe I didn’t have to worry about plopping it on next week’s to-do list anymore?
- Maybe I could just snooze it, guilt-free, till much closer to its calendar date?
And all of a sudden my “projects pending” list felt way lighter. (‘Cause yes, we want to lighten your DAY, but we also want to take the load off your entire bank of next actions in the business!)
And then the THIRD thing that happened was I started to see the “other side” effects of this work switcharoo process. Like, what that LinkedIn content looked like when I didn’t do it “on time,” but waited till I felt in flow (because I had the margin to do it, of course), and how much better/easier/just plain FASTER it felt to write a post….
All because I let myself OFF the hook (horrors!), TRUSTED that I’d get the “zing” back for writing (sometime this quarter), and acted accordingly.
And yes, it always happened. That zing came back. Those content ideas started flowing. The giant course overhaul backend project suddenly took only 1 week.
Because I let it.
You truly DO go much faster in flow than in forcing.
And that’s why, in my done-for-you time back program, we work on your MINDSET, not just your SCHEDULING, to create that “more time for deep work, less time for non-needle moving” time block list that’s truly going to support YOU.
Not some arbitrary to-do-list checker-offer’s version of goal-setting (and hitting); YOU.
With YOUR needs, YOUR kids’ school season, and YOUR welfare taken into account.
So what about you?
Which part of your business right now – could be backend admin tasks, front-end CEO visioning, daily content requirements, or even something about how you’re showing up for your clients – is feeling heavy, unavoidable, “just gotta muscle through it”?
Where in your client process are you using up precious willpower and rapidly shrinking discipline to MAKE yourself complete tasks, when there’s something else (but it’s on next week’s to-do list) that ACTUALLY lights you up, but you’re not letting yourself switch to??
That stops now. Nothing bad’s going to happen.
You GET to rearrange your workflow – EACH workflow – to match what you intuitively know is the best thing for you to work on each day. Period.
- Now that we’ve totally shaken up your performance box, what mental blocks are going to fall out (and stay out)?
- What’s the new layout inside the part of your brain that handles self-expectations for productivity?
- What are you ditching with a hallelujah of relief (even though your favorite coach told you to always do it that way)?
Shake it up, shake it out, and say goodbye forever.
It’s time.
(Psst – it’s also time to work less, snuggle your kids, and put “me time” back on your calendar.)
So DM me when you’re ready to set supportive, not performative, NY’s goals.
