Worrying about the high school-homeschool transition?
Don’t – not if you use these ultra-practical steps!
In this guest episode on It’s Not that Hard to Homeschool High School, I’m talking about casting a vision for your teen’s freshman year, intro-level career planning, and and how to integrate a high-schooler into your family’s chore load.
Banish your homeschooling high school worries with this checklist!
Read on for a sneak peek of our conversation below!
Here’s the highlights:
You know how important freshman year is; give her a chance to really see it! (Not just hear you talk about it.)
Encourage her to pick the subjects she’s most interested in for the non-essentials. (Aka, let go of the reins.)
Keep your options open and don’t skip all the math and science classes beyond the minimum. (Unless that’s what your teen needs to graduate – special cases only).
Select a handful of majors to give your teen an idea of what’s out there. (Go beyond engineer/doctor/lawyer!)
Next, show your teen how these different majors lead into careers.
Have your teen browse the required courses listed under each major she’s somewhat interested in.
What should her chore load be? How much should you expect from her?
Don’t load your high schooler up with chores if she already knows the basics of cleaning and food prep.
Find out what works for her schedule – which may be weekend only chores – and keep her involved.
