You’re allowed to want the life you actually want as a woman and mom and business owner.
So let’s look at what actually has to change to make that life possible.
Because sitting here, complaining about your latest hires and how the kids don’t help out and your husband doesn’t notice how much you’re carrying, and your mastermind friends aren’t quite in the same boat, so they can’t get it….
None of that is helping you actually practically change this. It’s that action-taking mindset that’s going to do it.
And you’re an entrepreneur, so you’re by definition an action taker, so let’s do this.
Number one, what do you need.
Do you need more support? Do you need more hiring? Do you need some people to take some things off your plate so you have the room to ideate on what you want next?
I mean, that’s a thing – maybe you don’t even have breathing space right now to think about your next level.
And I don’t mean “next level” as in your next level of clients you can hold at one time, or revenue scaling, or in the number of team spots you can hire. I mean next level as in your unicorn level.
You know, what kind of free time do you want to enjoy every single day?
What kind of unrushed morning, either with your kids or off doing meditation practices and working out, or both?
What kind of lunch break – coffee break – tea break during the day? When? And how many?
How’s your evening looking – what for fun activities are you filling it with?
What of the house chores do you not have to mess with ever again?
(This is your dream life, so anything’s possible. No leftovers cleanup? No dishes? No counter wiping? No vacuuming? No lunchbox packing?)
What time do you go to bed?
Now let’s back up a second – who’s holding you during the day?
Who can you send those urgent inbox inquiries off to?
Who can you vent to when you just need a minute?
Who’s brainstorming with you when you hit a strategy roadblock?
Who’s on your side, and yours alone?
That’s the kind of detail we’re going for here.
Now. Once you know that, now we can get to ideating what your next level’s gonna be. ‘Cause you’ve just laid it all out for yourself here right now. (Pity I’m on the other side of the microphone, so I can’t hear it. I would love to be a fly on the wall for you right now.)
But what did you notice about that life? What struck you about her responsibilities and visions and projects and just day-to-day stuff? Especially parts that you aren’t experiencing yet?
Maybe you said you wanted your teens to cook 2 meals a week for you, each.
Maybe you wanted somebody else to be trained on your pantry system so you don’t have to do all the putting away and yet you still know where to find everything.
Maybe you were imagining a new workflow in your business, where your support coach goes and logs into Basecamp every single day for you, and grabs all those client queries and uploads ‘em into a single doc twice a day for you, so you just get to voice note your responses to all of them, batching down a row, without seeing all your little red alarm bell notifications.
Maybe your future self has hired a different bookkeeper, someone who proactively goes over all your reports with you and strategizes on your revenue plans a bit.
Who knows! Other than this vision is yours to create, and it’s lighting you up. Therefore it’s an exciting one.
So…. Now that we have that, what’s next for you to do?
Obviously, to think through the practical steps necessary to make any or all of this happen.
I mean, we can’t just wish your new fractional CFO into being over here… much as that would be fun and easy.
But what we can do is browse a few LinkedIn CFO profiles, or post in your mastermind community for recommendations, or go ask that same community about house managers, or inquire if anybody’s OBM has space to take on a new client….
Those are practical things you can do.
And yes, maybe part of that’s looking at your budget availability, and calculating whether you can shift things around, maybe take a little less profit this quarter, in order to put all this in place.
‘Cause I mean, isn’t it worth it? To be able to live that “smooth operations” life, with someone ideating with you on the MRR spectrum, rather than having to do all that alone?
To be able to know your meals are handled, and your kids can find all the groceries in the pantry, rather than you having to be the one who carts and organizes and cooks all of it, week in and week out?
I for sure can tell you which one I would want….
But the thing you have to remember is that nobody gives you the right to make that next right call for yourself.
Nobody comes along telling you, “Honey, you need to hire right now to make some mental space.”
Nobody’s going to look at your life and say, “I think you could do with a little more house support here.”
(I mean, I might, but that’s if I get my hands on your day.)
So you have to be the one to be proactive here, and actively look for the things that would make your life easier, and brainstorm about them, and then go out and find them.
That’s just the way it is.
And nothing’s going to change about your life until you do that.
Your kids aren’t going to magically decide they should help you with dishes.
Your husband isn’t going to decide to just hit everything on your honey do list as an anniversary present.
Your social media manager isn’t going to go and research the latest marketing trends and turn herself into your CMO.
Isn’t going to happen. Not, that is, unless you go out and find each of those people – those roles – and start hiring and/or training them for it.
That’s how it gets off your plate for good. And that’s what I want for you.
For you to be able to say, “my life has changed” – and for so much peace to be the end result of it.
Now Lord, we come to You today. We come seeking rest, Father. So much rest. For this woman who’s listening as I’m speaking. She needs rest – so badly, Father. You know this – we already know that. But we want her to know that. To know that You care. That You listen. And that You’re going to meet this need of hers to have more space. More margin. More free time. More time to fill up her cup. ‘Cause You’ve put her on a mission from You, Father, and that mission is one she needs to be re-energized from. Both for, and from, Father. And we know You bless this, and You understand this, and You’re going to be right here on her side, each day, every day, from here on out. In fact, You’ve been there the whole time, Father – she just hasn’t seen You there. So show Yourself to her today, Father – show her where You’ve been carrying her. Show her where You have a little bit more for her to rest in. One more area she can lay down and give over to You. We ask it in Your Name, and for her refreshment and Your glory we pray, amen.
