Have you been going, going, going so hard on your business – and then taking care of the kids – that you’re neglecting YOURSELF?
Forgetting that you have needs, too, and ignoring the very basic food and shower and sleep priorities that keep YOU running?
Sometimes we just get so caught up in one more work project, and “oh, the kids need this,” and “oh, I don’t have time to do that” that we think it’s no big deal to skip out on our own breakfast (a handful of nuts will suffice), do it again for our lunch (we’ll just eat the kids’ leftovers – if there are any), and spend the supper hour rushing around to making sure everyone *else’s* needs are met.
More water? Sippy cup refill? Forgot to bring the ketchup to the table? Do you need seconds, honey? Me to cut up your food?
And we can practically spend the *whole* of supper taking care of *other* people while ignoring ourselves, leaving us prey to that late night snack craving that’s due to our bodies screaming, “you didn’t feed me enough today!” and not any inherent unhealthy habits on our part.
This has to stop.
You’ll never run on all cylinders as a business owner if you keep letting yourself get to the fumes level on your OWN nutrition, your OWN hygiene, and your OWN sleep.
Here’s a client example for this: one of my women experienced this aha moment for herself and told me, “Sometimes you just need to make tiny changes in your food and bedtime routines for yourself, and that solves all of my problems!”
It was a great lightbulb moment – ’cause she knew *exactly* what kind of meal prep strategies supported her workday best, and when she needed to close up to get to bed on time (for maximum energy the next day), plus how much workout time she needed.
She just wasn’t prioritizing it. And had fallen into that “oh, not today” trap for a few weeks now.
But do you know the *relief* she felt when she realized that her lagging energy was pretty much entirely due to *these* things?
That it was a super quick switch back to normal, everyday food and sleep habits, and then she’d be back on track?
That there was nothing really wrong with her, she just wasn’t getting the sleep she normally would?
*That’s* a huge release in and of itself when you’re the busy business owner, checking off your to-do list, and inside feeling that nagging worry that there’s something really wrong with you and you might have a thyroid problem.
No, you don’t – the cure is to just go back to the basics of taking care of yourself.
(Even if you have to lose some “efficiency” about your day.)
Go feed yourself breakfast. Lunch. And supper. Make sure you’re showering and doing your skincare routine. (You feel so much better when you do.)
And for the love of everything, go to bed *on time* so you can wake up energized, not groaning, tomorrow morning!
See, keeping up the mindset of “I deserve to take enough time for myself to eat a protein-filled breakfast” or “to do a whole foods brunch (the real food, not the store) because I’m intermittent fasting” or “to get 15 minutes every morning to do my hair and makeup and put on clothes I actually *enjoy* (if you’re like me and you don’t care to live in activewear)” is *actually* going to help you move *farther*, faster in your business.
You’re *not* skipping biz productivity uber-levels by taking off 30 minutes here, half an hour there to eat and move your body or get ready for the day.
No, you’re ensuring this biz-creativity brain of yours is in peak condition, getting the downtime it needs, heck, getting the *food* it needs, to keep humming along at a high velocity.
So when you’re coaching with me, I’m also going to be looking at where are *you* recharging. Building in *those* personal time blocks into your day and week and month.
Because you can’t keep charging full steam ahead on business, business, and more business without giving yourself some food, sleep, kid snuggles, and husband yapping time first. Okay?
See, more often than we’d like to think, the basics are everything. (Hint: that’s probably why they’re called basics.)
Where have you been skimping out on your workout time, or your morning smoothies, or your protein-filled lunch…. And what’s the EASIEST way to fit all that back in?
(Remember, no guilt allowed!)
